Juice

Blobs of juice. These are obtained after destroying/killing Trees, Crates, or enemies.

Juice Points (JP) or, simply, the Juice, is a strange and usually floppy rainbow substance that makes up every physical object in Juice Galaxy.

Properties[]

Juice can be obtained by destroying Trees and Crates, or killing monsters. It is most commonly seen as multi-colored blobs, which vary in size and shape. These Juice blobs are not affected by gravity and will hover in the the air until they are approached, in which case they will gravitate towards the player automatically. Alternatively, Juice can be immediately gained through sucking up defeated monsters.

The "Juice Meter" in the bottom right of the screen shows how much Juice the Player has available to them, and it can be spent in several ways - as such its value can fluctuate during a playthrough. Its maximum value appears to be exceedingly large, beyond what a player could ever expect to accrue legitimately.

Uses[]

Juice can be used to enhance your character at a Juice Fountain. It can also be spent with the Hoagen NPC to increase the size of a player's weapon, increasing its power. The Juice door and Hydrangela can be given Juice via a context-sensitive "feed" action, slowly decreasing the amount of Juice the player has while spitting it out in front of them, to be absorbed by the other entity.

Concentrated blobs of juice known as Juice Portals can also return the player to the Graveyard at no cost. The Good Juice item also appears to be a special variant of Juice that slightly heals the player and will attract Batty if the player is not a vampire.

Mechanics[]

Enemies and entities that drop Juice upon being destroyed have two separate values relevant to the amount of Juice they give, which can change based on the type of enemy, the Monster Level of the entity, and the game's difficulty. In the code these are referred to as monster.juice and monster.maxHealth. Juice can be obtained from entities in 3 ways, and each has a relation to the aforementioned variables:

  • From killing/destroying an enemy. This will drop ≈5 Juice blobs with a total value equal to monster.juice.
  • From sucking an enemy corpse. Completely sucking an enemy will provide an amount of juice equal to their monster.juice attribute.
  • From damaging an enemy with an offensive weapon. Note that polite weapons have no effect.

For this final method, the amount of Juice provided per strike is calculated using the following formula:

When using weapons that are to par with the strength of the enemies being fought (i.e. nothing that deals a one-hit-K.O.), the amount of Juice obtained by striking an entity should be between 1 and 2 times that entity's monster.juice value. If an enemy is killed and subsequently sucked by the player, they can expect to get around 3 times the amount of Juice as that enemy's monster.juice attribute.

"Overkill" strikes[]

As an implication of the Juice formula for entities, dealing extremely high damage in a single strike to an entity can result in it providing more Juice than the amount expected based on its monster.juice value. This means that very powerful weapons - such as the pre-nerf Draginslayer - can allow for the player to easily level up on any enemy they came across. As an example, consider hitting a hypothetical enemy with monster.juice = 30 and monster.maxHealth = 50 with a weapon that deals 1000 damage:

This system and the "Overkill" strike mechanic may be changed in future versions.

Trivia[]

  • According to Mrs. Slitherss, Juice "makes up everything". This vague statement may lead to these two theories:
    • Juice might be a common (yet very potent) substance that literally makes up everything in a physical sense. Ergo, it must be able to change hardness and color to become the objects we see in Juice Galaxy.
    • Alternatively, Juice may be a physical manifestation of life energy as opposed to a mundane substance, making up everything in a more spiritual sense similar to Mana or Chi.
  • Prior to the changes applied to the Good Juice, Batty would spawn once the player obtained 300 JP and would turn them into a vampire.
  • Based on Blacksmith Hoagen's dialogue, Juice does not appear to be used directly as a currency, as he claims to be "working for free" so long as the player provides their own Juice. (He will also return Juice to the player should they choose to decrease the size of a weapon.)
  • The size of Juice blobs is based on a logarithmic scale rather than a linear one, meaning that juice blobs can functionally only grow to a certain size.
  • The exact flavor of this Juice is unknown.
  • Maximizing all the upgrades costs 121923 Juice.
