Blacksmith Hoagen is a weaponry blacksmith and a passive entity, initially found near the center of the Wilderness.

Appearance

The Blacksmith is a tall, pink humanoid. He's larger than the Player, with size and build comparable to the Creator. He has blue eyes, a large nose, and white teeth, as well as a mustache, unibrow, and sideburns, all of which are white. Hoagen appears to be wearing nothing but a purple pair of pants that extend down the entirety of his legs and his feet. His arms are very muscular, and he holds a hammer in his right hand. As of V0.1.7, his other hand is buggy, and is a lot bigger than it should be.

Gameplay

He is found walking around the Mushroom, which is at the end of the Super Ripped Fog Giant path. After interacting with him and completing his dialogue, standing near him allows the player to manually change the scale of their weapon, both up and down, using Q and E on the keyboard. The scale increments by about 0.01, both ways. This function costs 1 juice per scaling juice. Nowhere is the cost shown. The Scale of a weapon effects how much energy it costs to swing or fire, and the maximum angular velocity of the weapon. More information can be found on the Item Stats page.

Prior to Version 0.1.7, you would have to hand your weapon over to The Blacksmith before it could be scaled. This was removed, as it caused many bugs that usually resulted in the weapon becoming irretrievable.

Trivia

• His design and name is heavily based on the wrestler Hulk Hogan.
• In his introduction video when first introduced, he was shown following after the Player and making noises that sound like a slowed-down version of the Player's sucking noises. These were never present in any playable version of the game.
• He is added in the second pre-V1.1.2 test build before the update patch's official release.
• If the player has the patience to collect large weapons that they don't want from high-level enemies or areas, they can use Hoagen's services to make them smaller and get juice in exchange.
• Fishlicka has said that Hoagen is likely going to get an update to his mechanics.
• Despite saying he'll do work for free, it still costs juice. This implies that juice is a resource, rather than a currency, and that some form of currency may exist, unseen within the game.

• At one point, Hoagen's left hand was completely normal, but after an update the model mysteriously glitched, making it comically oversized. This has been integrated into lore as of 0.1.14, with him stating that he got stung by a Wawsp when you ask him about the hand. This gives an in universe explanation and gets new players to find the Wawsp Nest.
